About Shona

Are you a business woman, mother, wife? Do you know deep down you're different – even exceptional? Maybe you have a hard time showing that difference to the world around you. You are not alone.
Be Unique
One of the biggest challenges facing women today is being visible - demonstrating uniqueness. How do you show that you're a confident woman, who likes to stand out and have her own style? How to show that you are your own person and definitely don’t follow ‘the crowd’?

There is no shortage of options for dressing right in the fashion world. You can spend significant sums on an accessory.  But, will it make you visible, stand-out? Will it show who you really are? Probably not.
How to Wow
What is the difference between a good look and a “Wow!” look? In a word it’s quality design.

Quality design makes a functional handbag something gorgeous, bold, fun to wear and gets you noticed. Quality design does something else too. It brings beauty into a dreary world.

There is a saying, “How you do one thing is how you do everything.” Good advice for being visible.

Accessories matter
Some women might say, “Oh I just need a bag to keep my stuff in.” Not you. You understand that being successful is in the details.

Hi, I’m Shona Easton, handbag designer and I show business women how to be exceptional.

I'm here to help you tap into the unique you.  To tell your story through the accessories you use.
Be Unforgettable
Because you already know you want to be visible, my handbags and accessories help you become unforgettable. After all, a picture’s worth a thousand words. Can one handbag do that? I think so.

I don’t worry what the latest handbag shape is from Prada or Fendi and neither do you. My designs come straight from the inspiration I find in my crazy, busy life, which I love.

I want you to be proud of your choice of handbag, especially if it makes others see you as you know you really are. For that reason, every one of my handbags is lovingly handmade and its style will stand the test of time.
My Design Process
When I design a handbag I usually start with the colour or texture in mind.  I have a selection of fabulous textiles and leathers - things I’ve found on my travels - which inspire me. Then with paper and pencil I sketch three or four ideas. Usually one idea captures my interest and I take a new sheet and refine that design.

When I’m ready to have it made into a sample, I then do detailed sketches (aka a design specification) and send that to my sample makers. The next part of the handbag creation happens in a small village a few hours from Chennai, India, in the workshop where all Shona Easton handbags are made.

Here I am in the garden of the workshop (it's on a converted farm) with all the ladies who make my designs.
Ethically Made
Because I know you’re a person who cares about worker welfare, especially in developing nations, I am proud to say that my handbags give employment to over two hundred Indian women who are able to supplement their family's income and send their kids to school.
This is Monica at the cutting station, Pramilla, the workshop manager and Masthanamma is in charge of finances.
My Story
I know firsthand that success doesn’t come while sitting on a couch. Over the last twenty-five years, as I have developed my business, there have been lots of ups and downs. But, I’ve always been a person who didn’t know the meaning of “You can’t.”

As a teenager I made my own clothes, preferring to spend my pocket money on yards of fabric to create something, rather than simply shopping for an outfit. From early days I was independent in my ideas which were often were expressed in what I created to wear. How I looked was important to me. Not so I could fit in with the crowd but so I could stand out.

I remember once laying out a piece of black fabric on my bedroom floor and, with scissors poised, my Mum walked in and asked “What are you doing?”
“Making a top to wear out tonight” I said calmly.
“No paper pattern, no pins, just some cloth, scissors and a sewing machine? That’s not going to work,” she said in her best mother-voice.
I felt a stubbornness rising in me. I knew I could and I would prove it. “I will be wearing my new top tonight,” and I did.

That strength of purpose helped me when designing for other well known companies such as Next, Esprit, M&S, Banana Republic, Gap, to name but a few. I found working with so many different styles and teams was challenging and exciting but in the end, I knew I wanted to be my own boss and create the lifestyle I always wanted.

So here I am now more than twenty-five years later. I have my own label, handbags and leather goods business, and I wake up every day excited and ready to go.

I’ve been able to travel with my work and lucky, too, that I’ve made friends along the way. Over the last few years, I’ve had the opportunity to live in five different countries - even the Middle East. The internet has made the world such a small place, I can be Head Designer and owner at Shona Easton Design Studio no matter where I live in the world.

It all adds up to more experiences, more inspiration for my handbags and more quality design for you.

What gets you up and going in the morning? I would love to hear from you.
